The main focus of this year’s conference will be the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into various Apple platforms, including iOS 18, macOS 15, watchOS 11, and visionOS 2.
AI Features in iOS 18
- Siri Upgrades: Siri will be enhanced with large language models (LLMs) to provide more natural responses and handle complex tasks like summarizing emails and messages, opening specific documents, and moving notes between folders using voice commands.
- AI-Generated Emojis: Users will be able to create custom emojis by describing the desired emoji using text prompts.
- Contextual Quick Replies: AI will analyze conversations to provide users with relevant responses, saving time and streamlining communication.
- AI-Assisted Summarizing: Mobile Safari will offer AI-assisted summarizing of web content, allowing users to read the most important points of articles more efficiently.
- Smarter Notifications: AI-assisted notifications will prioritize the most important notifications, providing a more streamlined experience.
- AI-Powered Photo Editing: Features like Clean Up and Generative Playground will enable users to edit their photos and create custom images through an app extension.
- Auto-Generated Apple Music Playlists: Users will be able to discover new music tailored to their preferences without the need to manually search for new tracks.
- AI-Assisted Transcription for Voice Memos: Features like voice recognition, summarization, and intelligent formatting will be added to voice recordings, making it easier for users to manage and review their recordings.
Other Software Enhancements
- RCS Support in iMessage: iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 will bring RCS support to iMessage, along with improved customization options for the home screen and design tweaks.
- Calendar and Notes Enhancements: Calendar will integrate with Reminders, and Notes will allow users to record voice memos directly in the app.

macOS 15 and watchOS 11 Updates
- macOS 15: macOS 15 will share some AI tools with iOS 18, including improved Siri with LLMs, intelligent search in Safari, and auto-generated emojis in iMessage. A new and overhauled Calculator app, integration with Notes, and a history tape sidebar are also rumored.
- watchOS 11: watchOS 11 is expected to be a ‘fairly minor’ update, with AI integration and LLMs improving Siri’s responsiveness and usefulness. RCS support is also likely to follow.
Apple Vision Pro and Hardware Updates
- visionOS 2: Apple Vision Pro is expected to receive its first major software update, visionOS 2, which will address missing native Apple apps and introduce features like live captions for all speech and the ability to rearrange the order of apps on the home screen.
- Hardware Updates: Hardware updates to the Mac Studio, Mac mini, and Mac Pro are long overdue but are unlikely to be revealed at WWDC 2024. Instead, these devices could be refreshed at a later event with an M3 or M4 chipset.
